James Squire Original Amber Ale

James Squire
Original Amber
ALE

A very smooth, very easy to drink beer.  I think this would make an excellent choice of beer for a long beer drinking event, such as wedding receptions or grand final parties.

The beer itself, lacks any form of aftertaste (the golden rule of a good beer), and is not too bitter and not too dry.  A very smooth ale from beginning to end.  At the same time it seems to be lacking that little spark that would make it a great beer.

And not only is the beer good, the bottle has a story on it, seperated into chapters on different bottle.  You need to drink at least six just to get the whole story - how can you go wrong?!?

Mmmmm beer.  As it is beer, it tastes good - as such none of my reviews are going to be below 5.  Doesn't get much higher as not enough kick arse grunt.  Would not assist significantly in the beer goggles stakes, but does have a nice aftertaste.  Not bad.

James Squire - I had drank this beer on tap before at pubs and was never a great fan ot it, but this one really hit the spot.  Very easy to drink - one of those beers you look down out and have almost finished, but you hadn't noticed until then.  Unlike the tap version, there was no after-taste.  Sort of a malty taste- not too much though.  All up an excellent drop.

An interesting beer.  Not bad.  Quite drinkable yet at the same time lacking that extra Ooomph one desires.

However looking at the beermap on the Jame Squire's website all my favourites seem to be down the bottom of the Bitter/Sweet scale.  So perhaps the pilsner would be more to my liking.

Light and inoffensive is the first word that comes to mind about this beer. Don't get me wrong, this is actually the kind of beer I like (a lot) - it's smooth, majorly quaffable and you could drink quite a bit before turning to something else (or not). Naturally, this is not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't help it to rate among the best. I may regret rating this beer as low as I have after tasting those beers that will get foisted upon us in the future (eg. the sock beer), but at this stage, I doubt JSOPA has the kutzpah to be rated in the top 20%...

Yes MMMMMMM Beer, Fantastic Beer, great taste, not an over strong taste but enjoyable, This is a beer for any occasion’s, Wedings, football, cricket, V8 Super cars, primary school teacher interviews and so on.

I guess the only small down is the 345ml, not as bad as some, but this could be improved, and cost this beer half a star, If this was priced right I would turn to James Squire.

Consume          5 10 24 30 or until face meets the deck
Season Beer:  -Yes     24 hours, Breakfast, lunch, dinner, (tea for the country people
Meal Beer       -Yes     Make any meal, only problem, it would turn into a session
Social Beer     -No      Would start out as a Social Beer but would turn into a session

I have had this beer on tap (a fair few times) and now bottled too and it gets 10/10 for consistency.  In fact, if there is a draw-back at all about the beer, it is the fact that it tastes the same whenever, wherever.  However, it is a taste that i like a great deal and it's consistency means it's one that is very hard to look past when you find it on tap at the local hostelry.

For me, it's got the consistency of an english Pale Ale, and the palate of a good Bitter.  It's a beer i would recommed to friends in the knowledge that if they didn't like it, it would be because their tastebuds were shot.

A top tipple.

Nearly confused the first mouthful for soft drink.

This would have to be one of the easiest beers to drink in my experience - if there was an official title of "Ultimate Breakfast Beer" (i.e. the beer you can always drink first thing no matter how seedy you feel), this would be in a serious fight with MillerGD.

Being consistently inoffensive to the last, you could safely serve this on any occasion with little fear of it being rejected... and if the next person doesn't like it, well that's more for me then, in'nit?

Gets an extra half-star for the "Beer Map" on the website.
