Empire Lager (Carlton)

Beer Brought By James Redden
Empire From Carlton Empire Lager (Carlton)

http://www.fosters.com.au
Boot %4.6
Mass 345ml
Stubby holder Pass

Flat VB, yep that's right, leave a, Vic Bitter can on the bench with the lid off for two days, add water, and there you have it Empire Lager.

Very easy to drink, but I would not pay the extra considering the little taste, the Boot of 4.6, the 345ml and the overall plainness of the whole package.

First thought - they've re-bottled Fosters. But wait, what's this? A very pleasing, yet subtle, aftertaste - quite strong barley flavours which increase with consumption. The bottle design itself is no great shakes, and it could do with more than one trick up its sleeve in the taste department, but this one stands head and shoulders above the gassy VB and the bland domestic Fosters. At the end of the bottle I was left wanting more. And that can only be a good thing... Overall, one of the better domestic beer. If you think that's not saying much, well, you're probably right.

A baby VB. Flatter, less metallic than its older sibling, marginally more drinkable, but still a CUB beer - the same awful smell, very temperature sensitive, bad aftertaste.
An almost complete waste of time.

A nice enough beer, but you wonder why CUB bothered- it tastes very similar to the standard CUB range of VB, Fosters, Melbourne, etc., which are good beers, but I expected a bit more from a new beer on the market.  Apparently the aim is to use this beer to win back some of the RTD market, but not sure how that will go.  In terms of taste, pretty clean, easy to drink, but lacking distinctive flavour.
