Shöfferhofer Hefeweizen

Having laboured over the task of "choice" for the few preceding days, I was swayed by the news that Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen had won some award for Best Import Beer of some year, and the 500ml seemed a good selling point.
I figured I'd forgo the "home-ground advantage" having never heard of this beer until the morning of the tasting.

It started off well enough with its creamy texture and interesting fruity/spicy taste, and seemed to hold these qualities right to the end. I suspect it may also have some visual appeal, but having necked the bottle, someone else can report on that.

The flavour and aroma held up consistently, with the kind of character well suited to a hearty meal.

However, finishing the bottle unaccompanied became an increasingly daunting prospect.

All up, an interesting beer that’s worth the experience, but having comparable local wheat beers at a more affordable price, one that’s hard to justify revisiting.

And unlike some recent reviews of other beers, would do better in a smaller bottle.

Couldn’t find the link on the website to the English version, so I guess Alex will have to translate what the woman in the black bra & panties is saying…

I love German beer. In order of merit, I would put it behind only the Czech Republic in terms of quality. Hence I loved this beer. A half a litre of pleasure. Needs a glass to capture the full aroma. Very nice.

hmm. I like hoppy beers and a constant flavour, but this was all a bit too much for me. I actually found the beer became tiresome after half a glass and would probably have got a better review if i'd drunk less of it - and i guess that's a bad thing when it comes to wanting a drink. So, flavour was OK, but I wouldn't want another one. I did pour it into a glass and the colour was good as was the smell, however, it did not reward my efforts to drink it all, and ultimately i wouldn't buy it and would probably not want one bought for me either. It was a bit on the gassy side too. But I did manage to finish it, hence the 1.5 stars.

Aye carumba! This beer smells bad and tastes worse. I think there is some sort of industrial cleaner in there though as it seemed to become less offensive as I drudgingly progressed through the half litre of beer. This cleaner effect removed any aftertaste evaluation that could have been possible. I beleive I would rather have saurkraut in my leiderhausen than drink this again.

I did give it an extra half point for the amusement I gained from saying the name repeatedly.

To review this beer to any great extent would be a huge waste of time and words. I like the name and the volume of the bottle was also good but the taste, unfortuneately, was shithouse....

This is a simple one
This stuff picks up 2 stars for its volume of 500ml, yep half a liter.
But looses a star for it’s name, what the hell is that??
Also looses a star because I could not find a picture for this manure.
Looks like home-brew and doesn’t taste much better,

Consume 3 to 4
Season Beer: -No Ill after 3.
Meal Beer -No would destroy a meal.
Social Beer -No you’ve got to be joking, Errrrrrrr.
